On His Six

On His Six, the third book in the Away From the Keyboard series is Intense, emotional, and Thrilling. We follow Ryker the leader of Hidden Agenda and survivor of being captive in war. He has to make amends with a fellow captive and in doing so meets Wren. Wren is a crackerjack programmer and hacker. She is looking for her brother’s k!ller and Ryker is willing to help. The suspenseful and emotional ride they share as they look for and work to destr*y the worst of the worst kept me on the edge of my seat and holding my breath. I know I let out several gasps and I was reading and few “Oh NO's”. My heart went out to Ryker and all he lived through, but I knew Wren would sooth his soul. The pace is fast and the action electrifying as is Ryker and Wren’s connection. The heat they generate was enough to melt my kindle. I’ve enjoyed this series and Ms Eddy’s style of action and suspense. I’m looking forward to the next book.

I love the mix of character building and action in this series. Ms. Eddy has a beautiful way of writing "broken" characters and making them feel real and relatable. I may not suffer the same way exactly, but I’m able to feel their fears and pains through her words.
In On His Six we learn about 15 months in ‘Hell’ from Ryker's point of view and how Wren helped him finally heal with her own traumas. As odd as it may seem, I’m really looking forward to seeing it from Dax's pov. Although you can read these as standalone stories, I HIGHLY recommend reading them in-order to get the full story and experience. Even though each story, so far, is focused on one couple…I love that we are still learning about previous characters and their lives.

I cried! Wow! This book left me speechless. It’s so wonderful! I loved every single part of it.

I was intrigued by Ryker since he was introduced in the first book in these series. I wanted to know his story. And I wasn’t disappointed. Ryker is beautifully broken. He survived literal hell. And still, he kept going, and rescued a lot of people since then. He has a very huge heart underneath all his growly demeanour.

Wren is his perfect match. She grounds him, gives him peace. Banishes his nightmares and demons. And most importantly, she sees him, the real him. They are perfect together.

Ryker helped her when she needed him the most. Their story is very beautiful.

Overall I loved this book very much. If you’re a fan of romantic suspense, then you’re in for a treat. I’m off to read Dax’s story now.

Audiobook Review:

I so thoroughly enjoyed hearing how Aiden Snow and Grace Grant brought their voices and vitality to the surface. I got utterly lost in hearing Ry struggle with his connections to their people - his family - around him, and Wren as she found the strength to heal and overcome the demons brought on her.

Also, I have to note that Grace Grant just blows me away with her ability to don accents without skipping a beat. Her and Aiden Snow (who could read me anything and I'd die happy) are both the standard I now hold all other narrators to, without question.

This is absolutely a book that I'll listen to time and time again.

Original Review:

I wasn't aware that this was part of a larger series until after I finished the book, so it can easily be read as standalone. This was the first book I read from this author, and definitely not the last. I was drawn in by the way she describes the shattered relationships of our characters - how Ry is unable to confide in the team he feels he let down, how Wren is unable to reconcile the thought of a broken promise to her lost brother, how broken people can find beauty in learning to be themselves.

At no point did I feel that the story dragged on, it begins with Wren's missing brother and quickly delves into searching for him and the dark, twisted world he got caught up in. The give-and-take we see as Wren and Ry navigate the search and themselves makes for a suspenseful yet satisfying romance. This is definitely well worth the read.

Ryker is one behemoth of a man. Yet he is caring and confident and will go out his way to help those in need even though he must face down his own fears.
